Dr Kate Empson - Clinical Psychologist in York

I am a Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I completed my clinical training at Lancaster University, and following this, I worked within a number of community NHS services. This included learning disability services, working with both adults and children, and I have also worked in a community based mental health team for older adults. I believe passionately in the power of neurodevelopmental assessment and therapy, and in particular, adapting and tailoring the way I work in order to best meet the needs of the person accessing support.

I set up York based Park Psychology Services in 2021, and have provided assessments exploring neurodivergence with both adults and children, including providing specialist neurodevelopmental assessments with people who are adopted. I have also provided therapeutic support, and cognitive assessments, both to inform neurodevelopmental assessments, and as an expert witness for Court.

Experience

I am trained and experienced in administering a range of neurodevelopmental assessment tools; these include the ADOS, the ADI-R, the MIGDAS and the Autism Clinical Interview for Adults, as well as cognitive assessment tools such as the WISC, WAIS, WIAT, and measures of adaptive functioning, such as the ABAS. Clinicians who work with Park Psychology Services are trained and experienced in the use of the assessment tools they are using as part of the assessment process.

I feel so lucky to do the job that I do, and I enjoy working in partnership with people seeking to explore themselves through psychological assessment and therapy. When I am not working, I love spending time with my dog, Roxy. I also enjoy baking, with various degrees of success!
